Crowns

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped "cap" that is placed over a tooth -- to cover the tooth to restore its shape and size, strength, and improve its appearance.

There are different kinds of dental crowns.

 

•       Metal-ceramic crowns: Consists of a metal cap lined with ceramic

•       Based on zirconia: Are covered with ceramics

•       Whole zirconia: Cut out of a single bas of zirconium and then painted in the desired color

•       All-ceramic: The most aesthetic restoration is made using various technologies from lithium desilicate (IPS e.max) to feldspatic ceramic

 

o   The choice of manufacturing methods and materials from which the crown will be performed is selected based on each specific clinical situation, mainly taking into account the aesthetic wishes of the patient.

•   Teeth after endodontic treatment or retreatment

•   Tooth decay in consequence of caries, trauma or abnormal abrasion

• Aesthetic requirements of the patient

Stages

•   Careful examination of the patient’s oral cavity

•   Determination of the types and colors of the crown based on the clinical situation and the wishes of the patient

•   Preparatory procedures should they be required

•   Tooth preparation, gum retraction, taking of impression of teeth, fixation of the temporary crown

•   Fabrication of crown in a dental laboratory.

• Fitting and fixing the crown in the oral cavity

Results

•   Restoration of chewing function and anatomical tooth shape

•   Preservation of the tooth and protection from further fracture of the root fracture

Recommendations

•   Do not eat for 2 hours after direct fixation

•   It is forbidden to crack any hard objects like the nuts or lid from the bottles

•   Smoking affects the aesthetics of the crowns negatively

•   Careful oral hygiene 2 times a day and regular examination at the dentist every 6 months

• If the crowns are made according to all the rules and are not subjected to excessive physical or chemical effects, then the life of their crowns is calculated in decades
