Gum Depigmentation

Gum depigmentation, also known as gum bleaching, is a prosedure used in cosmatic dentistry to lightin or remove black spots in the gums caused by melanin.

Stages

Hyperpigmentation is the production of excess amount of melanin pigment. The appearance of spots can be associated with genetic predisposition, consequence of long-term use of certain medicines, excessive smoking, endocrine disorders like Addison disease. Laser gum bleaching is a cosmetic procedure to easily remove the brown or black patches. Similar to laser skin resurfacing laser gum depigmentation vaporizes and destroys the top layer of the gum tissue. A new tissue is created during healing; it tends to be pink rather than brown. Everything heals in about 2 weeks. We encourage all smokers to stop smoking completely for at least 10 days after the procedure.
